Area Rugs

Decorating can be a huge headache. One of the easiest ways to pull together a room is to purchase an area rug. Area rugs have many advantages and are available in almost any style you could imagine.

Area rugs can be placed on hardwood, laminate, tile, or carpet. They do a great job at helping protect your floors and hide any flaws or stains. Area rugs also do a great job at diminishing noise and also help warm up the floors. The right rug can take your room from ordinary to extraordinary for a great price.

There are many different types of rugs including hand-knotted, hand-tufted, and machine made. The names simply refer to how the rugs were made. The price, look, durability, and care of a rug all depend on how the rug was made so do your homework to decide what rug is best for you.

Make sure you measure your floor space so your rug fits properly. Also keep in mind where the rug is going. Is the rug going in a high or low traffic area? If it’s going in a high traffic area it may not last as long. The durability of a rug depends on the material of the rug, the construction, and the amount of traffic. Based on these factors, rugs can last between five and 20 plus years.

There are a few simple ways to increase the life of your rug. The easiest way is to make sure to vacuum your rug at least once per week. This keeps the rug from collecting too much dust and “rug bugs”, which are similar to bed bugs and can ruin your rug if left unchecked. Rugs should also be rotated several times per year to prevent uneven fading. Rug pads can also do a great deal to extend the life of any rug. Rug pads protect the floor under the rug and prevent the rug from sliding. Lastly, it is recommended to have your rug professionally cleaned every three to five years.

Area rugs can be a great way to add that final finishing touch to any room. And investing in a good rug and taking good care of it can give you years of use.
